Besides daily blood glucose testing, people living with diabetes may need to monitor other aspects of their health including their blood pressure and HbA1c levels.

HbA1c is an average of blood glucose levels over the previous 10-12 weeks and is usually tested every 3-6 months as part of routine diabetes management. The general target for most people with diabetes is less than 53 mmol/mol (7%). Targets may need to be adjusted depending on age, diabetes treatment and other health problems (for example children, elderly frail people). Your doctor will advise you of the HbA1c target that is right and safe for you.
